A legal battle has begun between the Jackson Public School District and Jackson City Council over school funding.
JPS filed a lawsuit against the Jackson City Council accusing the city of refusing to raise enough taxes to cover a budget request by the school board.
Filed in Hinds County Circuit Court, the suit challenges the city council's September 14th decision to raise taxes by 2.5 mills on the school district's behalf.
The school board says that tax rate won't cover a budget request of $88.9 million dollars.
Copies of the suit were given to council members earlier this week.
