Teen sleep important to heart health

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Teenagers who don't sleep well may be at risk for heart disease later in life.

One in five teens has significant sleep problems -- like insomnia, waking up during the night, and not getting enough sleep.

A new Canadian study of over 4,000 adolescents found those who consumed more unhealthy foods, exercised less and watched more T-V... Had high sleep disturbance scores.

Researchers say sleep disturbances are linked to high cholesterol, blood pressure and a higher B-M-I -- which are all risk factors for heart disease.

This story was led by researchers at The Hospital for Sick Children (CAN) and published in the "Canadian Medical Association Journal."
