JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
The 153rd annual Mississippi State Fair is open for business and will run through Oct. 14.
Monday morning, ride inspectors checked all the structures on the midway, making sure every pin was in place, and every bolt tightened.
"Everyone wants everyone to come out and have a good safe time. It's also important for all the patrons to observe the signage they see at each ride," said ride inspector Don Hankins.
One new attraction on the Midway is a three-story high roller coaster called NITRO!
Patrick Hadley of North American Midway Entertainment says there are 59 rides in all, waiting to test stomachs from across the state.
"It's just a good place to come and bring your family and make memories every year, it's a good clean carnival," Hadley said.
Dozens of food vendors have stocked their booths and are ready to cook up some unique fair food over the next week.
Omar Botana says he's been coming to Jackson for 26 years.
"Very good customers have been loyal comeback every year wait in line for us, were real pleased, we always come back," Botana said.
