Miss. celebrates racial reconciliation during October

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Breaking down racial barriers is the focus of a month-long celebration in October. In its 19th year, Mission Mississippi continues to work toward improving race relations in the Magnolia State one relationship at a time.

The organization held a press conference at the Jackson Convention Complex in downtown Jackson Tuesday morning.

A proclamation signed by Governor Phil Bryant was announced recognizing October as Racial Reconciliation Celebration Month in Mississippi.

Mississippians are encouraged to participate by attending the Racial Reconciliation Celebration Banquet October 25 and participating in Two and Two Together Restaurant Days October 11th.

"That encourages people to have lunch and dinner together across the racial divide and to sit down and have a conversation and get to know each other," said Neddie Winters, president of Mission Mississippi.
