CLINTON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
The Clinton Public School District has achieved the highest possible academic rating in the state.
The district has five star schools. Students and teachers were honored at Friday night's home football game.
Clinton is one of only three districts in the state to achieve the designation.
In order to become a star school district, students must have high state test scores and there must be academic growth in the district.
"Clinton has always placed a priority on education and certainly public education is no different. Our community has supported this school district for many, many years and it's exciting to see that support continue," said Clinton Public School District Public Information Officer Sandi Beason.
Clinton schools are the only district in the Jackson metro to achieve star status.
