Nearly 800 runners laced up for the 24th annual Over the River Run in Vicksburg on Saturday morning.
Scores of people lined up to run across the old Mississippi River bridge, near Washington Street.
The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation says the fundraiser has generated about $15,000.
Some folks sat on the bluffs to get a good look at the five mile run that took the athletes to Delta, Louisiana and back.
"This is the most scenic race in the state and people come from all over. We have Colorado Springs, Colorado. We have New Jersey. We have Virginia. We have people coming from all over to go across this bridge, and it's so unique and we are proud," explained Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation Executive Director Annette Kirkland.
The foundation plans to use the proceeds for the maintenance of historic buildings, along with educational and artistic programs.
