HPV vaccine's influence on sexual activity studied

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A new study may help alleviate concerns parents have about allowing their teenage girls to get the HPV vaccine.

The HPV vaccine protects against the sexually transmitted human papilloma virus.

Some people have suggested the vaccine may lead to an increase in sexual activity. However researchers say those who received the shot were no more likely than other girls to get pregnant, acquire other S-T-D's or ask a doctor for birth control.

The vaccine is recommended for girls and boys as young as 11.
