JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A 28-year-old Taylorsville man is hospitalized in stable condition and a Taylorsville police officer is on administrative leave with pay for shooting him.

Taylorsville police chief Gabe Horn said it happened at 7:15 Monday evening on Highway 37 and High Street, north of town, where his officer responded to a disturbance call.

Chief Horn said, when the 28-year-old raised a 12-gauge shotgun, the police officer fired four shots from his service weapon, striking the man in the arm, side, upper leg and chest.

The man was airlifted to Forest General Hospital where he will likely be charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.

The officer was not injured.

Chief Horn is withholding the name of the shooting victim and the officer pending the result of an MBI investigation.
