JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Jackson pastor has voluntarily stepped down after allegations surfaced accusing him of statutory rape.

Pastor Danny R. Hollins of Greater Fairview Baptist Church has not been charged with the crime.

His attorney, Precious Martin, gave us this statement:

"My client vehemently denies all of the accusations and allegations. No charges have been brought against my client by any law enforcement agency and I doubt if any will because these allegations have no basis in fact. I intend to use every legal remedy available to me to find the source of these salacious and scandalous allegations and I intend to see that these individuals are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

Martin also confirmed Hollins voluntarily took a leave of absence from the church on his advice.

This afternoon we also received a statement from Dr. Isiac Jackson, President of the General Missionary Baptist State Convention of Mississippi.  Jackson says quote, "We have not authorized any person or persons to speak on our behalf concerning this matter between the church or pastor and our prayers are with the alleged victim and her family, the Greater Fairview church family, Pastor Hollins and his family.  The State Convention has no jurisdiction over any churches within our convention; they are independent churches with their own boards.  I as President and my entire Board will continue to pray for all.  Thank you."
