Judge denies Hinds election injunction

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A U.S. District Judge has denied an injunction filed by the Republican Party to delay elections in Hinds County.

Republican officials along with Hinds County Supervisor Phil Fisher asked the federal court to delay or require the election to be held under lines drawn before redistricting.

Judge Carlton Reeves denied the injunction.

Fisher, the board's only white supervisor, and the Republican Party filed a lawsuit in September accusing elected supervisors of improperly using race as a consideration in redrawing voting districts.

Four black supervisors filed a motion last week to dismiss the lawsuit.
