Pickens mayor killed in accident

HOLMES COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Mayor of Pickens died Thursday afternoon. Authorities say Joel Gill was killed in a car accident on Highway 17 South near Pickens.

Gill was a farmer and a business owner. He also ran for various offices in the state.

In 2011, Gill ran for Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce. He lost to Cindy Hyde Smith.

He is survived by his wife Ann, a daughter, and son.
