Man arrested in drug bust near school

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The narcotics unit of the Hinds County Sheriff's Department has made another drug bust.

It happened late Friday afternoon at 4180 North State Street in Jackson. Sheriff Tyrone Lewis held a press conference in front of the house where he displayed a variety of illegal items seized by his deputies.

Michael Ray Stewart, Jr., 25, was handcuffed and arrested on the scene.

Sheriff Lewis tells us some of the charges Stewart faces.

"Selling of marijuana, possession of cocaine, possession of hallucinogenics to include a form of mushrooms, methamphetamines, two handguns, one shotgun, several items for smoking commonly, paraphernalia. We're looking at a street value today of what you saw is about $10,000 ", Sheriff Lewis said.

Stewart will face additional enhanced charges because his illegal activities were happening within 15 hundred feet of a school.

Lewis says this arrest is the result of an ongoing investigation.
