FLOWOOD, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Halloween spending hits a record high.

One hundred seventy million people will celebrate this year; that's seven in 10 Americans.

This is the biggest number since the National Retail Federation starting tracking Halloween spending 10 years ago.

The average person will spend just under $80 on costumes, candy, and decorations, With total spending projected to reach $8 billion dollars.

Party City's Flowood Manager says business has been good and steady this year. Morph suits are very popular with kids and adults looking for the right costume. And, Robin Harrigill says although they get some competition from pop-up stores Halloween is still big for Party City.

"Not really, we're locally owned and operated. We're here 365 days a year, so we have a good cliental base of customers that come with us year in and year out," Harrigill said.

Party City's manager also urges customers to be safety conscious when you're shopping for your Halloween look.

Items that glow in the dark and glow sticks can help make sure your little ghost or goblin can be seen while out trick or treating.
