JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
The victim of a hit-and-run accident early Sunday morning had a gash in his head, according to what witnesses told Jackson Police investigators. The unidentified victim was run-over by a black car with tinted windows in the 4600 block of Highway 80 at about 2:45 AM.
According to JPD, the death was initially attributed to the hit-and-run, but further investigation revealed that the African-American victim in his mid-40s already had a head wound. Witnesses described the man lying in the road, and as bystanders went out to assist a car hit him.
Hinds County coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart had already declared the victim died of blunt force trauma, and is now trying to determine the nature of the "gash" in the victim's head.
Police are still searching for the driver of the car involved in the hit-and-run.
