BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Kemper County man, has  been sentenced to 26 years in  prison for killing his own father in a boating accident.

Brad Hardy was found guilty on two counts of culpable negligence manslaughter and one count of aggravated boating under the influence of alcohol last week.

Prosecutors say Hardy rammed his boat into two boats on a sandbar on the Pearl river killing his father, Mike Hardy, and Roger Gibson.  Another man, William Hulett, was injured. The incident occurred on Memorial Day of 2010, on the Pearl River.

Prosecutors said Hardy was drinking and traveling at a high rate of speed when his boat came ashore ramming two boats killing the men. Witnesses testified that he was trying to splash them.

Hardy's defense was that the steering system on his boat malfunctioned.
