Lawsuit to be filed against Jackson school district and coach

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

U. S. District Court Judge Tom Lee has cleared the way for three Murrah basketball players to proceed in federal court against Jackson Public Schools and Coach Marlon Dorsey on their federal equal protection claims.

Dorsey was fired last year after cellphone video surfaced of him whipping some of his players with a heavy leather weight belt.

He was allowed to resume coaching after a 25 day suspension.

A federal civil rights lawsuit was filed on behalf of the three players.

The players' attorney, Lisa Ross, says Judge Lee did dismiss her clients' federal substantive due process and privacy claims.

She says Judge Lee deferred ruling on the plaintiffs' state law claims.
