Many patients with certain late-stage cancers may mistakenly believe chemotherapy will cure them of their disease.
Doctors at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston surveyed more than 12-hundred cancer patients across the country.
All had either advanced lung or advanced colorectal cancer.
69% of lung cancer patients and 81% of those with late-stage colorectal cancer believed their chemo would be a cure.
Doctors say it can extend life, but only rarely can it be a cure at that stage for those cancers.
