Miss America makes a stop in Jackson

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Residents of Jackson got a glimpse of pageant royalty during a visit by Miss America. 

2012 Miss America Laura Kaeppeler attended a mother and daughter tea party at River Hills Country Club Thursday afternoon. 

Kaeppeler later made an appearance at an evening social. 

Music, beauty, and fashion were also a part of the event.  

Miss America 2012 talked about the message she spreads as she travels the country. 

"The overall message of overcoming obstacles, adversity, not allowing your past to define your present or your future, are some of the main messages I spread. For me, music was my life-saver and my saving grace during that time."

 All proceeds from the event went to the Mississippi Opera.
