Holmes County Supervisor sentenced

Posted: Updated:

A Holmes County supervisor was sentenced to 13 months incarceration for stealing taxpayer money. Norman Cobbins, 61, of Lexington will serve six months in prison followed by seven months of house arrest.

While Federal Judge Daniel Jordan ruled not to impose any fines on Cobbins he will pay more than $26,000 restitution. Prior to sentencing Cobbins family and attorney made pleas for leniency.

"He has an ailing mother-in-law living with him, his son is sick," Cobbins' attorney Terris Harris said.  "So, we asked for a little mercy from the court. I'm not sure if the court really paid that much attention to be honest with you. Nevertheless, the sentencing is very, very fair."

Dozens of Cobbins family and friends were there for support.

Cobbins plead guilty in August for submitting false invoices and requisitions to the county, then converting the money for his own personal use.
