Manhattan Road Bridge opened to traffic

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

After being closed for more than a year, the Manhattan Road Bridge opened to traffic this weekend.

In a press release, Jackson says it cost $600,000 to repair the bridge.

Under the city's bridge replacement program, eight have been constructed. The Manhattan Road Bridge was closed in August 2011. At the time residents complained it created a major traffic issue in the area.

Last week the city began construction of a bridge on Beasley Road. At a cost of $130,000, it's expected to be complete before Thanksgiving.
