Earthquake upgraded to a 4.0 magnitude - MSNewsNow.com - Jackson, MS

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - The earthquake that shook much of the Mid-South Monday morning has been upgraded to a magnitude of 4.0. 

According to The United States Geological Survey, the quake happened around 7:39 a.m. near Parkin, Ark.

It was originally reported to be a 3.9 magnitude earthquake.

The quake's epicenter was 6 miles southwest of Parkin, 16 miles north-northeast of Forrest City, and about 30 miles west of Memphis, Tenn.

The earthquake struck near the New Madrid Seismic Zone, a 150-mile stretch between Memphis and St. Louis that crosses parts of Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee.

Dozens of Action News 5 viewers called in with reports of feeling the shake from various areas of Miss., Tenn., and beyond.

No damage or injuries have been reported.
