JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Three years ago Junior Achievement, a non-profit organization to show how businesses really function, closed its doors. That left a void in educating junior high and high school students about basic fundamental of running a business. We aired a story about Dre' Helms, Florence High School Business Fundamental instructor, letting her freshmen class open a campus coffee shop.
"They came up with the name, the ideas, the menu, all of the marketing. It's just exceeded our expectations," says Helms. "This is as close to a real-world experience as we can give a 9th grade Freshman in high school, so they are excited about it."
Who knows this coffee shop experience may produce a new generation of entrepreneurs providing job opportunities and strengthen our local economy.
