JPD using drug seized BMW to send message

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson police are hoping a seized BMW 750i sedan will send a message to drug dealers. JPD showed off the luxury car Thursday afternoon in front of police headquarters.

Officers will take the BMW to schools and community meetings. At other times, it will be parked in front of the police department.

The $40,000 BMW was seized in January, along with $12,813. Lorenzo Taylor, 28, Marion Shepherd, 33, and Rhaji Adams, 32, were arrested in the bust.

Police hope the car will send a message: If you use a big house or nice ride to sell drugs it can be taken once you're arrested.

"We really, really want to emphasize this to our kids before they become apart of the drug culture, either as senders or as users. We also want to take an opportunity to emphasize our drug hotline," said Jackson Assistant Police Chief Lee Vance.

The Drug Hotline is similar to Crime Stoppers but is used specifically for drugs.

You can call in tips to JPD at 601-960-0025.
