Millsaps student surprised by brother's return from Naval deployment

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Millsaps College biology student Hannah Enloe of Ohio was enjoying the Homecoming Court brunch with her parents Saturday morning when Director of Student Activities, Matt Binion, began reading a letter from her brother, who had been deployed overseas.

"Dear Hannah, sorry I couldn't be there.... his handwriting is messed up. Let me see if I can get some help."

At that point, Naval Lieutenant Michael Enloe walked in and greeted his sister with a warm hug, amid the applause from others in attendance.

Lieutenant Enloe had actually arrived home on American soil eight days prior. He came to surprise his sister on her special day.

Hannah says she didn't really take note of the presence of TV cameras.

"I thought it was because it was homecoming," she says. "He said he was gonna be deployed longer and he probably wouldn't be around for Christmas. I planned on seeing him maybe by graduation. This was a great surprise."

Lieutenant Enloe says he planned the surprise with his parents.

"They said at one point Hannah's going to be in Homecoming Court at Millsaps. It's gonna be on this day. I realized that's gonna be fun, I'm gonna be home," he said of the early plans. "Interestingly enough, we lived on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi down in the Bay St. Louis, Waveland area for six years. That's where I got recommended to go into the Naval Academy from. So it's a lot like coming home actually."

Lieutenant Enloe says he will soon start working on his military qualifications again, but first he will enjoy his family.
