RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A high-speed chase in Madison landed a strong-arm robbery suspect in jail. It began around 8:45 Tuesday morning as a bank customer was withdrawing cash at the BankPlus branch ATM in Ridgeland.

Thirty-four-year-old Rachel L. Strickland is charged with strong-arm robber in Ridgeland after authorities say tried to steal money from the customer. She also faces DUI and reckless driving charges in Madison

Police say Strickland pulled in behind a woman at the ATM. She then reportedly got out of her car and grabbed money from the woman's hands after it was dispensed.

The suspect then fled in a medium size grey SUV.

Authorities chased Strickland from Ridgeland to Madison after identifying a vehicle that matched the description. Numerous law enforcement agencies pursued her.

"The vehicle wrecked on its own at the intersection of Madison Drive and Grandview Boulevard," said Ridgeland Police Lt. John Neal. "This suspect was taken into custody and she was identified as the same lady who committed the strong armed robbery here in Ridgeland."

Authorities say Strickland has a prior history of traffic violations in Ridgeland and narcotics charges in Madison.
