Many young adults may have undiagnosed high blood pressure.
Researchers at the University of Wisconsin examined the health records of nearly 14-thousand U-S adults.
All had been to the doctor several times within the past few years and had multiple elevated blood pressure readings.
Yet 67-percent of 18- to 24-year-olds never received an official hypertension diagnosis. 54-percent of those over 60 remained undiagnosed.
Doctors say a diagnosis is the first step toward getting treatment and getting blood pressure under control. Hypertension is a risk factor for heart attack and stroke.
This study is from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, and presented at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions.
