There's preliminary evidence cholesterol-lowering drugs may also help reduce cancer deaths. @
Statins have been hailed for their ability to lower levels of heart-damaging cholesterol.
Now a large analysis of literally everyone in Denmark diagnosed with cancer between 1995 and 2007 suggests another benefit.
Researchers are reporting that taking statins before a cancer diagnosis reduced cancer-related deaths by 15-percent.
More study is needed to confirm the link.
Doctors say lowering cholesterol may limit cancer cells' ability to grow and spread. @
This study is from researchers at Copenhagen University Hospital (Denmark) and is published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
