JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Those of you with pets know that most parks don't allow dogs, or they have lots of restrictions.
But there's good news today: Jackson is finally getting a dog park!
"Bree's Bark Park" will be built next to Community Animal Rescue and Adoption, or CARA, on Flag Chapel Road. The park will include running space, a splash pool, and an agility training area.
On Saturday, volunteers began clearing the 1.6 acre area where the park will be built. Dog owners will pay a membership fee to the park, and the dogs will get lots of exercise.
"And then what happens for a city is... it's like people with their kids. They take their dogs, start (meeting) each other. Then all of a sudden, it becomes a social group built around these dog parks. It's a great thing for the city," says CARA Board Member Ann Somers.
The dog park should be complete by the spring. Any funds you donate to the project will be matched.
