Organization wants to clean-up 3 Jackson neighborhoods

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Some Jackson neighborhoods could soon have a facelift, if one organization is able to meet its goals.

Saturday evening the Mississippi Education Counsel held a town hall meeting to hear from residents.

A city councilman and Jackson police officer attended to listen to the plans.

The group wants to adopt one neighborhood and one neighbor at a time to clean up rundown houses, give a fresh coat of paint, and pick up trash in the area.

They say the goal is simple and could make the community a safer place to live.

"(It's) A solution for us to come together in unity, to take back our city. To build Jackson up to make it a safer place to help the officials," said Mississippi Education Counsel member Juanita Blackmon.

The Mississippi Education Counsel wants to target the Georgetown, Virden Addition, and Pocahontas Heights areas.
