JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

With a slow continued improvement in the economy the Governor and top lawmakers adopted a revised budget indicating the state will bring in $118 million more than anticipated. There was good and bad news out of a Joint Legislative Budget Committee on our state of the economy.

Revenues estimators confirmed that Mississippi slipped into a recession in April, but the economy is looking up and it appears we are headed out of the slump.

The Governor and lawmakers heard that housing and the automobile markets are growing slowly. The job market remains at historic lows with employment the weakest link of the state's economy.

According to revenue estimator Dr. Darrin Webb there is evidence of a continued improvement in housing and vehicles sales, however, there remains concern and uncertainty about the fiscal cliff facing the President and Congress January 1st.
