CARY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Three years later and authorities have made new arrests in an unsolved Sharkey County murder case.

Others have been arrested over the years and later released. However, no one has been able to provide the answers they needed.

Karitha Carroll and her 3-year-old daughter, Jamiah, were found stabbed to death with their throats slashed on Sept. 29, 2009.

It happened in their home on Highway 61 in the small community of Cary.

A year later investigators announced they were looking at the case as a murder-suicide.

Carroll's family refused to accept that theory and continued waiting.

Still, her sister says she replayed the events of that day in her mind every day since then.

She also hopes the most recent arrests will be the missing pieces they've been searching for.

The Sharkey County Sheriff confirms one man and two women have been arrested in connection with the case.

But another twist in this story is the Carroll's believe the man is someone they considered to be a family friend.

The three suspects are expected in Sharkey County Justice Court Tuesday afternoon.
