Man air-lifted to hospital after being pinned between two trucks

GREGG COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

A man was airlifted to a Tyler hospital after a serious wreck in Gregg County.

The accident happened on Highway at Venus between White Oak and Longview just before 8 a.m., when a woman driving a pick up truck ran out of gas and stalled out in the eastbound outside lane of Highway 80.

The woman's husband pulled his truck in front of hers to help her refuel. While the husband was standing between the two trucks another truck slammed into the rear of his wife's truck, pinning him between the two trucks and severing one of his legs.

"A blue pick-up was coming east bound toward white oak from Gladewater , in the left lane behind other vehicles, did not see the cars, the car ahead of him slowed so he changed lanes to the right lane and instantly hit the back of the gmc," said trooper Carl Davis of the Gregg county DPS.

The man was transported by medical helicopter to a Tyler hospital. His wife was transported to the hospital by ambulance with unknown injuries. The driver of the other truck was transported by private vehicle to a Longview hospital with minor injuries.

The eastbound side of Highway 80 was shut down while crews worked the scene.
