BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
The annual Stuff the Bus food drive is in full swing.
So far, between 2,000 and 3,000 pounds of donated food has filled up the back of the Stuff the Bus school bus. The goal is to stuff the entire bus up with 10,000 pounds of food by Friday.
All of the food will go to the Mississippi Food Network and the 415 agencies that rely on the food bank.
"Our agencies are trying to provide food to the families that they serve and its important because we have an increased need this time of year," said Marilyn Blackledge, the Director of External Affairs for the Mississippi Food Network.
"It is amazing just how much food it takes to feed hungry people because there are so many people in this area. I know that for us it takes around 8,000 cans of food a month to serve our clients," said Darren Miley, the Congregational Care Pastor at Pinelake Church in Flowood.
You can help stuff the bus Thursday until 7 p.m. at the Kroger on Highway 80 and Crossgates Boulevard in Brandon.
The last day to Stuff the Bus is Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Kroger on Highway 51 in Madison.
