JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
The Food and Drug Administration is investigating possible links between 5-Hour Energy Shots and more than a dozen deaths.
The inquiry spans four years and includes 33 hospitalizations and 13 deaths, according to the FDA.
There is no evidence the caffeinated drinks caused any of the deaths or injuries, but an investigation is ongoing.
5-Hour Energy Shots contain the rough equivalent of one to two cups of coffee and do not contain herbal stimulants.
In a statement, the company that makes the energy shots says it's taking the reports "very seriously" and suggests 5-Hour Energy only be used by "hardworking adults who need an extra boost of energy."
