A 61-year-old Madison County woman has been sentenced to prison for selling counterfeit Viagra from a business in Ridgeland. Mississippi's Operation Knock Out Knock-Offs Task Force discovered the fake drugs during a statewide investigation.
Alicia Ospina, of Ridgeland pleaded guilty in Madison County Circuit Court before Judge William E. Chapman III Monday. She was sentenced to serve one year in jail, followed by five years of supervised probation. She must also pay a $1,500 fine, investigative costs, and court costs.
Hood says Ospina was arrested in mid-November for selling the counterfeit drug at Botanica Yoruba located at 6610 Old Canton Road in Ridgeland. Ospina was charged with two counts of intent to sell, distribute or dispense a substance that was falsely represented to be a prescription drug.
The arrest was the result of a multi-agency investigation in partnership with Mississippi's Operation Knock Out Knock-Offs Task Force. Twenty-six search warrants were issued at businesses statewide.
