Jackson police light up shopping centers

Jackson police are lighting up shopping centers across the city during the holiday season.

Officers will have their blue lights on in 12 high traffic areas to increase visibility and make shoppers feel safe.

There will also be foot and mounted horse patrols.

This is the third year for "Operation Safe Shop -Look to the Blue Lights."

60 additional officers will be on the streets.

The operation began Thursday and will continue every day through December 31st, from 9 AM until 11 PM.

"We are promoting professionalism for our officers, so that they will be available and receptive to those individuals who are coming into the shopping center and offer any type of assistance that they may need," said Jackson Police Chief Rebecca Coleman.

This is a list of some of the areas where police will be patrolling this holiday season:

Westland Plaza, Hwy 18 corridor, Hwy 80 corridor, I-55 corridor, Highland Village, Wal-Mart, Metro-Center Mall, County Line Road, Maywood Mart, Sam's Club, Target/Home Depot, and Fondren.
