Homeless couple living in car needs help

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

They are homeless and the only roof over their head is their car. That car, a 1988 Pontiac 6000, is parked on Clinton Boulevard in west Jackson.

Forty-five-year-old Hoyt Cantrell and his girl friend, 44-year-old Laurie Baker, say they have lived in the car, at this location, since the second week of October.

The property is leased by Gary Anderson, who told us they have his permission to be there.

Cantrell says he can't get a job because he has seizures. He has applied to social security for disability but has been turned down. He is appealing.

Laurie stays with him because he cannot be left alone.

"I have lost weight, she has lost weight. And we can't get no help" said Cantrell. "One lady stopped and said she was going to bring us Thanksgiving dinner Thursday. This is no way to live for anybody. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy."

Hoyt and Laurie say they plan to stay on Clinton Boulevard until they can get some help.
