Joe Barnes - - Jackson, MS

Joe Barnes

Joe Barnes joined WLBT in April 2012 and is excited to share the stories of the people of central Mississippi. In addition to reporting four days a week, Joe anchors the Sunday evening 5 and 10:30 P.M. reports.

Joe came to Jackson from Columbus, MS. He was the weekend anchor and later senior reporter at WCBI for more than five years. Joe got his start in television at WCBI as an intern in 2002.

In between, Joe has made stops in Davenport, IA and as a student recruiter at his Alma mater, Mississippi University for Women.

Joe has been recognized for his reporting numerous times by the Mississippi Associated Press Broadcasters Association.

He has reported on the deadly April 27, 2011 tornado outbreak that killed dozens in north Mississippi.

Joe also covered then presidential-candidate Barack Obama's visit to Columbus in 2008. He has also covered an execution at the Mississippi State Penitentiary in Parchman.

Joe's reporting also spurred Mississippi lawmakers to make the use and possession of Salvia illegal in the state.

Joe grew up in Columbus, MS and Millport, AL, but most of his family calls the Magnolia State home. Although he's living a few hours away from his "home," numerous family and friends live in the Jackson metro area.

When not at work, you can usually find Joe outdoors or watching his favorite sports teams (Mississippi State, Chicago Cubs, New Orleans Saints).

He's now happy to call the Jackson metro his home and looks forward to the new adventures sure to come.
