The Sulphur Springs ISD police department notified the Sulphur Springs Police that they had information about a teacher at a SSISD school having a relationship with a female student in the district.

Special Crimes Unit officers Lt. Harold McClure and Detective Sergeants Mark Estes and Tony Crouse investigated the allegation. As they interviewed the high school teacher, Donnie Merle Martin, he confessed to having had sexual contact with a female student.

Martin was taken into custody on Tuesday, November 19, on a 2nd degree felony offense of having an improper relationship between an educator and a student.

Martin was transported to the county jail, and his bond was set at $20,000.

Sulphur Springs ISD officials were not available for comment Wednesday due to the school holiday.
