Lots of money will be changing hands this holiday shopping season, but before many folks pull out a credit card, they'll pull out their smart phone.
"This is what people are doing," said Brad McMullan, CEO of textingleader.com, a Ridgeland company focused on mobile marketing and app development.
Those people are tech savvy shoppers looking for not only a good deal, but where those deals are.
"We're shopping online while we're in line," said one shopper.
"According to Google, 70 percent of people that make a purchase that own a smart phone, actually look at their smart phone before making a purchase," said McMullan.
Smart phones are increasingly changing the way people shop because there's always an app for that. McMullan says the apps that make up the mobile world are creating a more competitive market.
"They're able to go in and say, here's a nice TV but now I'm going to shop the world to see if this is the best price," said McMullan.
From Black Friday apps showing where the deals are to apps that'll scan a barcode and search for a better bargain at nearby stores, in many cases, you never have to leave home.
"They give an inlet to shop for these great deals without having to actually go fight the crowds in the stores," said AT&T store manager Jimmy Robinson.
Many retailers are even updating their apps to search inventories for a better price on any given product over a competitor's. It's that type of digital pricing that gives shoppers the power to search hundreds, if not thousands of retailers in a matter of seconds.
"It's not where's the newspaper and let me see what the sales are. It's, I can Google a certain item, I can download an app and I can shop literally retailers from coast to coast so I can get the best bargain," said McMullan.
