JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

For the second year, the Berean 7th Day Adventist Church on West Woodrow Wilson Boulevard is serving Thanksgiving meals to the community.

The Deaconess Department of the church used their funds to purchase the turkey, dressing, vegetables, and desserts. They say they saw a special need in the area, primarily among underprivileged families who did not feel comfortable going to some of the charities that serve homeless populations.

"Sometimes they feel people may look down on them. That's not always the case," says Deaconess Gloria Collier. "Sometimes you never know when you're gonna have to go to a place. That's why they can come in, be served, feel like they can connect."

"Last year when we did it, it was so rewarding. We didn't have a big turnout, but we wanted to do it again," says Head Deaconess Linda Malone.

The church expected to serve about 120 people on Thanksgiving.
