Salvation Army delivers 4-thousand meals

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

This Thanksgiving was a blessing for many who received generous portions of homemade turkey dinner from the Salvation Army in Jackson. Volunteers packed the new Corps Community Center early.

Hundreds of meals were delivered to those in need. Inside, two assembly lines served up tasty portions of smoked turkey, dressing and yams. The Salvation Army served thousands of meals to the homeless and elderly.

Those who gave up their day with families, were grateful for the opportunity. Carolyn Young was pleased to lend a helping hand.

"When they get these meals the expression on the face speaks volumes," said Young. "They are so blessed. You can tell they are grateful."

"It's really fulfilling," said Ted Lloyd, another volunteer. "It's feels great to give back to the community and I'm so blessed I just found a reason and a way to give back. It's great."

Captain Ken Chapman said volunteers smoked over 200 turkeys and cooked up volumes of dressing. It's another yearly tradition that so many are taking advantage of, in these difficult economic times.
