The rivalry between Ole Miss and Mississippi State kicked off Friday, a full day before the tradition-rich battle for the golden egg Saturday in Oxford.
The athletic departments of both schools hosted a Red Kettle Egg Bowl at Bass Pro Shops in Pearl to raise funds for the Salvation Army.
Dueling ringers were decked out in Ole Miss and State gear each trying to beat the other and score dollars for charity from Black Friday shoppers.
University of Southern Mississippi and Texas A&M fans were even seen making a red kettle donation.
As the shoppers came and went, one by one they opened their wallets and hearts to help others in need by donating to the Salvation Army Red Kettle Christmas campaign.
And with sportsman like conduct said "May the best team win."
