BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The search is on for a new Auburn football coach. Auburn fans are looking at the various candidates.

Monday on Good Day Alabama, Paul Finebaum of the Finebaum Radio Network said the search should start out and center on three men at first, beginning with former Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino.

"He is disparate. He is from Auburn. You will hear Gus Malzahn. He has been there. He may be hurt by the fact he has been there and was a part of this. I think you will hear Jimbo Fisher's name prominently," Finebaum said.

The current Florida State football coach, Jimbo Fisher, does have support among some Auburn fans.

"I think he is the most experienced and the best suited for Auburn," Auburn fan Rodger Garner said, also citing Fisher's level of recruiting experience.

"I think he would be aggressive and bring Auburn more winning games," Darby Ford said.

Former Auburn offensive coordinator and current Arkansas State coach Gus Malzahn is also getting a lot of support.

Alabama fan Justin Ingram says his wife, who is an Auburn supporter, would like to see Malzahn get the job.

"The conversations we had, Gus contributed to a lot of the success we had behind that championship team and his offensive strategy could be beneficial to Auburn with all of the struggles they had this season," Ingram said.

While the selection of the next coach remains in doubt, some fans know what characteristics they want in the next coach whoever that might be.

"The person needs to be a disciplinarian, that is item number one and priority number two, I want an offensive coach," Terry Duchock said.
