Hospital workers getting pay checks late

Posted: Updated:
PORT GIBSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Claiborne County Board of Supervisors have approved a loan of $150, 000.00 to meet payroll for hospital employees. Workers say the county recently took over management duties at the Claiborne County Hospital, and paychecks have been late.

County officials say they were not given the proper provider numbers for reimbursement for medicaid and medicare from the previous management company, causing a cash flow crunch.

Claiborne County Board of Supervisors President Charlie Norrell Sr. says, "We've gone through all kinds of problems including legal court documents, going through judges.  The cash flow from medicare and medicaid will help us in getting our monies flowing."

Norrell says the checks have not been more than three days late.

The county took over management of the hospital, after the previous owner got in trouble for embezzlement.

"The provider numbers are important to us, very important for the existence of every rural hospital," says Norrell.

County officials hope to get the hospital on independent financial footing in the next few weeks, and get the employees their checks on time.
