Exercise combined with statins lowers death risk

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A combination of exercise and statin treatment gives patients with high cholesterol the best chance for survival.

In a decade long study of over 10,000 patients, researchers found death rates were lowest for those taking statins and were physically fit.

However, exercise was the most important predictor of survival.

The fittest participants had a 60 to 70-percent lower risk of death, regardless of whether they were taking statins.
