Vicksburg woman celebrates 105th birthday

Posted: Updated:

There was a rare birthday celebration Wednesday in Vicksburg where Mrs. Elizabeth Blum turned 105 years old.

Queen Elizabeth was adorned with a tiara and feather boa during her party at Heritage House Nursing Home.

Blum was surrounded by family and friends who presented her with gifts.

She was born in 1907 in Warren county and graduated from Jeff Davis Academy.

At the age 17 she moved to Cincinnati where she trained in cosmetology, studying in New York and later working in Hollywood.

Her husband, Harry died in 1979.

She attributes her longevity to her relationship with God.

"Being close to the Lord is the thing that you need to do to get through your life. You can't get through life without him," said Blum.

The former Jackson resident's 100 year old sister-in-law, Thelma Blackburn and her nephew James Blackburn helped her celebrate the milestone.
