JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Hinds County Sheriff's Department swore in its newest and youngest deputy Thursday morning.

Liberty is a 2-year-old German Sheppard. He's worked as a narcotic detection canine with Hinds County for several weeks. He's already had success bringing criminals to jail. Earlier this month Liberty worked with other deputies on "Operation T-Bone" where marijuana and money were seized.

The energetic canine's official swearing in ceremony will take place at the Liberty Bank located at 2325 Livingston Road in Jackson. The bank purchased Liberty for the county.

"Sheriff Lewis came by one day with some of his staff and asked us if we'd assist in replacing two canine dogs that they'd recently retired, he made the proposal, the pitch we loved it immediately," said Carlton Stephen, the Regional V.P. for the Mississippi Region of Liberty Bank.

Liberty came to the U.S. from Holland. The hardworking pooch understands both Dutch and English.

He's the first canine deputy brought in under Sheriff Tyrone Lewis's administration.
