JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Ballet Mississippi put on a performance of The Nutcracker Thursday morning for children!

About 1,600 kids from across the state came out to Thalia Mara Hall in Jackson with their families and school groups to see it. The cast members were also mostly children.

It's a story about a girl who receives a nutcracker from a toy maker during a family party on Christmas Eve. Overnight, the girl dreams of the nutcracker coming to life.

Children we talked to had a good time.

"It's about a girl, it's Christmas time. She got a little nutcracker for Christmas from her grandfather," says Jonah, age 8.

"Her brother was jealous. He had snatched it out of her hand. He broke it. He tried to break a nut," says Donte, also age 8.

Ballet Mississippi is putting on another show Friday morning. It's sponsored in part by Entergy Mississippi.
