JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Jackson organization is raising money to help children born with a genetic disorder.

Skylar Laine performed Saturday for the Stop Spinal Muscular Atrophy organization's Country Christmas fundraiser at Jackson Academy.

A number of parents and children born with the disorder also attended. Spinal Muscular Atrophy makes it hard for children to breath.

The concert is a fun event, but the move for more research is just beginning.

"We're a small organization. So we really don't have any overhead, you know, and we're all volunteers. So, it goes to research, and we have a research project at Emory University at Basil Labs that we are working on ways to treat S.M.A.,"  said Jeff Horton, President of Stop S.M.A.
